The initiative of the Federal Customs Service of Russia
(FCS) was designed to control traffic crossing the borders of Kazakhstan
to improve the effectiveness of seizing sanctioned products with false phytosanitary certificates, the head of the agency Andrey Belyaninov confirmed.
“We are now carrying out a form of post control. These mobile groups are on the roads and have the appropriate authority to inspect vehicles under the pretense of searching embargoed products,” Belianinov said.
The customs agencies of Kazakhstan
have been notified by Russia's FCS. Belyaninov said that the cooperation of the three customs structures will help minimize risks and eliminate the temptation to bypass the baggage inspection stations.
