Turkish Lemons Still Permitted To Enter Russian Market Featured

07 December 2015
Lemons were not one of the items included under Russia's list of prohibited Turkish imports because finding replacement suppliers would not have been possible in the short term, according to Russian officials.
Nuts and some other citrus fruits also were not included under the trade restrictions for similar reasons. From January to October, Turkey had shipped 90 thousand tonnes of lemons for a total of US $53.8 million to the Russian market. According the Union of Exporters, for the same 10-month period, Russia purchased lemon imports at a cost of US $214.8 million. Other than Turkey, other large citrus importers include Iran, Saudi Arabia and Romania.
